Small, red, and completely alive. Ruby is corundum, the same mineral as sapphire with chromium doing the colouring, and it is second only to diamond in hardness — which is why rubies worn for centuries still look like they were cut last week.
This one is a modest round, faceted rather than domed so it actually throws light, set in a close silver bezel with no shoulder detail at all. At 13 millimetres the ring reads as one bright pulse of red on the hand, and it does even more in a stack than it does alone.
