A vertical bar, built like a small piece of architecture. Two round coral cabochons in warm red bookend the composition top and bottom, with a rectangular pale green variscite between them.
It is the most rigidly composed ring I have made, and it came from wondering whether a ring could be laid out like a page — red, green, red, running up the finger in a column. Coral and variscite are both matte and opaque, so there is no sparkle anywhere. It is pure color and interval, and the intervals are the whole design.
Every solder joint on this one had to hold three separate bezels in alignment, and solder does not care about your composition. I built it up in stages over a couple of evenings, letting each joint cool before I risked the next.
It wears bold and graphic. Nobody has ever failed to notice it.
