A fern that was never alive.
Look closely and you'll see what looks like a fern pressed into cream-white stone. It isn't a fossil, though everyone assumes so — those black branches are mineral deposits that grew through cracks in the silica, following the same branching mathematics as trees, rivers and lightning. Nature repeating itself at a different scale.
I paired it with one small round peridot in fresh apple green, because the dendrite looks like a plant and a plant wants a leaf. The bezel is hand-textured, and I engraved the bail with a leaf pattern to carry the idea through — that bail is my favorite part of the whole piece.
I don't hide the little imperfections nature left behind. More often than not they turn out to be the reason I bought the stone in the first place.
