Crazy lace agate teardrops, banded in cream and tan and rust, are the body of these earrings. Every band is a record of mineral-rich water moving through volcanic rock, arriving in layers over a span of time nobody can really picture.
At the top I set small faceted garnets, because the agate is all pattern and no sparkle and it needed one bright point to catch the eye first. Garnet brings warmth and a confident old-world red that sits naturally against the rust bands below.
They wear warm and earthy with just enough shine. Good with wool, denim, anything with texture.
Every bezel was rolled from flat stock and soldered by hand, then filed back until the seam vanished.
Patterned stones are a gamble. You cut into them not knowing what picture is inside, and that uncertainty is most of the pleasure.
