Deep wine-red garnet inside an elaborately engraved frame — scrollwork all around it, beaded edging at the border. Garnet can carry ornament: it is warm and confident and, unlike a flashing stone, loses nothing by being surrounded. The engraving was cut by hand with a graver — no transfer, no undo.
Size 8.5, sterling silver. Hand engraving cannot be repeated exactly, so this frame exists once.
