Kyanite is the cool, cerebral stone — teal rather than blue, and it changes tone depending on the angle you look from. That's pleochroism, and kyanite has it strongly.
It also grows in long, blade-like crystals, which is why a rectangle suits it so well: the cut follows the shape the mineral wanted to be. Faceting kyanite is genuinely difficult, because it splits cleanly along one plane and punishes a careless cutter, so a stone that arrives faceted and intact has already survived something.
I set it in gold rather than silver to warm the teal and keep it from reading cold. Every solder joint on that band is tucked underneath, out of sight.
