A marquise labradorite — the eye shape — thirty-one millimeters long, throwing strong blue and gold.

Cutters almost always keep labradorite as an oval, because a marquise wastes precious flashing layer at the points. Someone here was willing to lose weight for shape, and I'm glad: the tapering ends give the flash a direction to travel, so it sweeps up the finger instead of pooling in the middle.

Building a bezel with two sharp points is fussy work. The tips want to spring away from the stone, and getting them to lie down took a lot of small taps and a lot of holding the ring up to the light to check.
