Pietersite carries a storm inside it. Blue-grey chatoyance swirls through dark material in bands that seem to move when you tilt the stone, and the effect is genuinely unsettling in the best way.
I hung it beneath an open filigree frame, wire bent and soldered into lace-like scrollwork with nothing behind it. Vintage in feeling, deliberately so, because a stone this moody suits an old-fashioned setting better than a modern one.
Filigree is the most nerve-wracking work I do. Every joint gets its own fragment of solder and a careful second with the torch, and one moment of inattention collapses the whole lattice into a bead.
They wear like a small piece of wearable art. Detailed, textural, slightly antique, and much lighter than they appear.
This pair came together over several evenings, and I remember most of them.
